I may have...

So, I may have decided to join a gym with hubby. We are both exercise deprived and feeling the effects of it. I've never been terribly motivated to exercise in the past, so we'll see how it goes!

And I may just have to buy....an ipod. I've never had the need for one in the past. I was either listening to the radio in my car or at home. Then I had Emery and he picks the music now :) But if I'm going to be motivated to work out, I'm thinking I'm going to need some music!

Do you have an ipod? Which one? What do you love/hate? I'm not sure which one to get! HELP!
And what are some must have songs to put on it?

Thanks in advance for the feedback :D

I have an ipod shuffle, which is perfect and tiny for workouts - I think. It only holds like 150 songs or something (maybe 200?), but honestly - I don't even listen to them all by the time I finish my workout. I guess if you'll be using it ONLY for workouts, it's a good one. The bigger, better ones are fun for so many other things too - I'm just poor! Haha!

I have a shuffle too and for me its perfect. I only use it when I run and is very small and clips right on, I hate to hold something, or have something big and bulky stuck to me. Good luck!

Well since your not way obsessed with music (yet ;)) I would suggest the IPOD Nano because it still holds quite a bit of music and it's not too expensive. You can also choose the color you want (mine is pink). I'd like to upgrade one day to an 80 gig IPOD, but I'm really happy with the Nano that I have right now.

i like the nano because it is still small and lightweight but you it has a screen so you can see what song you are listening to and scroll through playlists, etc. i just clip mine into an armband, i can't even tell it's there.

I love my shuffle. LOVE IT. I'm like you - I don't feel the need to have a higher gig iPod. The shuffle clips on to your shirt so you don't have to buy anything extra. And, I think they're down to about $40-50 now. Plus, with the shuffle you never know what song's coming on next - it adds SOOOO much excitement to your workout. And, it comes in as many colors as the Nano does.

The must have songs depend on what kind of music you like. I have a mix of country, pop, and some sweet rap songs. Yup. Rap.

I personally would be very frustrated with the Shuffle since it doesn't have a screen... that means if you ever want to listen to a specific song, you're just out of luck. You'll have to skip through all 150 songs until you find it. If you're getting an ipod for exercising, nano is def the way to go.

But i'm not convinced that ipods are really the best mp3 player out there for exercising. their best feature is that they're lightweight and work seamlessly with itunes. But there are some drawbacks you should know about, too. I find the touch-scroll button pretty frustrating while I'm exercising. Since the play, stop, fast forward, rewind, and volume controls are all combined into the single touch-wheel, you have to have a pretty steady hand to operate it. So if you're on a treadmill and decide you want to skip songs or listen to something else, there's a good chance you'll have to get off the treadmill, push buttons, then resume exercising. Maybe not a big deal, but I find it very frustrating - especially since I've had 3-4 other mp3 players throughout the years that just used regular buttons and never encountered this problem. Also, if you ever want to use it in the rain (not likely if you're joining a gym) you'll want to put some sort of plastic covering over it - and that tends to make the touch-wheel extremely frustrating to use. Also, ipods don't have radios. So i dunno if you will ever want to listen to the radio, but if you do, know that ipods don't have one.

So basically, I know everyone thinks the touch-wheel is cool - and it is - but normal buttons are WAY easier to operate while exercising. But if you don't think interrupting your jog for 5 seconds to mess with the controls will drive you nuts, then an ipod will probably be just fine. I recommend the green one.

I have a nano. I love it. I have a arm band that I put it when I exercise. I like how you can make different play lists with the nano and then choose what you feel like listening too.

Right now my favorite work out songs are "Let it Rock" kevin rudolf (edited of course!) "Just Dance" lady GaGa and "How do you sleep" Jesse McCartney (don't laugh!)

Have fun!!

I have a video iPod as well as an iPod touch. I LOVE the touch...it is a little more expensive but well worth it. You can use it to get online and check your email, or you can add fun games to entertain yourself when you're bored, they have an application for pretty much anything you want to do. I have one that keeps track of how many calories I eat in a day and how much I should eat in order to hit different weight goals. It holds millions of songs and photos and is basically my whole life rolled up into one convenient device that fits inside my pocket! :)

I love the gym...it's a great escape/mood lifter! Have fun!

Tyler gave me a 4gb nano a few years ago. I have never had another mp3 player - but i love it. At first, the wheel is hard to use while you're exercising - but after awhile - no big deal. I'll never put videos or pictures or games on it - i don't have time to bother with that stuff - but I do like to have different play lists. Tyler has his own for when he goes jogging, and I have my upbeat playlist, and my cooldown. It will take some serious effort to fill it up - unless we find some good books on tape.......or mp3...whatever.

I've had a mini, a nano, and a touch. I'd go with the nano for exercising. The touch is REALLLLLLLY annoying when you are running and you want to change songs (I tend to click through at least a couple hundred songs in an hour). I also have an arm band, although I used to have a clip and I preferred that setup (it broke, and the clip and armband came together, so I just use the armband now.) I need to have a screen because, well, as I said, I have no idea what I'm going to want to hear until I'm in the midst of working out and I tend to scroll through songs very quickly until I find what I want. The nano click-wheel is pretty simple to use when exercising, so I must kindly disagree with above poster Reuben - I've never had any problems using the controls while doing any kind of exercise. Heck, yesterday I played a game of solitaire on mine when I got bored while using the stair stepper.

As far as music, it highly depends on your taste. Lately I've recommended the Ting Tings as kind of fun for exercising, and Britney Spears is the old standby. For me, speed is absolutely the key. And if you do rap, Missy Elliot is great.

I have a IPOD Nano & love it! I bought it from the Apple store refurbished - there's a new case & box, just the guts are refurbished. I had a 2GB & just upgraded to an 8GB (when I lost my other one).

I like some of the workout mixes on iTunes. Once I find a song that I like, I make a Pandora radio station online & find similar songs. Or we go to a YSA dance & I ask what's playing when I hear something new.

Enjoy the gym! I bet you'll love it!

I really like my nano, but I mostly listen to books on tape so I put the book on and listen till it is down. I don't really shift around to much. Sometimes I will throw a CD or playlist on the end or at the beginning and that is easy to find...I am not sure about the new shuffle (I have the older version 1gb size, and it holds roughly 12 hours of music/books) that has the controls on the headphones, maybe to much finger skill is required to handle that.

I really do want one that is a bit larger so I can have lots more stuff on it and have less trips to the compy to change it out...So maybe a Nano is in my future, but I will still have a shuffle specifically for working out...
